Ms. Norma Bradley

Executive Director - Advocate Legal Senior Center

Ms. Norma Leonard Bradley is the Executive Director of the Advocate Legal Senior Center. On February 8, 1982, she resigned as the Supervisor of Senior Specialist, of the Senior Legal Aid Mobilized Unit (SLAM Unit) with Gulf Coast Legal Foundation. On February 22, 1982 Ms. Bradley founded the Advocate Legal Senior Center, which is a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal services, advocacy services, public benefit counseling, community education, information and referrals to senior citizens. Our program also provides community education for Grandparents and kinfolk raising children of absentee parents.

 

She has dedicated her life to fighting for and educating seniors of their rights. Ms. Bradley's main priority has always been to empower seniors in Harris county by educating them, regarding benefits and resources that are available to them. She is known as the "Guru" for senior issues, a member of Care for Elders Government Relations Work Group. She is dedicated to speaking out for the rights of the Elderly. In addition, Norma Bradley supports Senate Bill 95 which calls for an evaluation of training programs offered to "personal attendants" (for seniors).

 

Programs developed and implemented by Ms. Bradley as listed below:

1982 The Baby's Porch Residential Facility for Chemically-Dependent Minority Women with Children. (1st in the State of Texas)

 

1989 Legal Rights Program for HIV-infected minorities and their families

 

1993 The Elder Abuse Prevention Program; Minority Food Pantry for HIV-infected Women and Children

 

1996 Community Education Programs for seniors

 

1999 & 2005 Grandparents raising Grandchildren

 

The Senior Exercise Program for Texas Southern University

 

The Advocate Ombudsman Technology Clinic (Law for the Indigent Elderly), which provides Advocacy, Ombudsman, Administrative Law, Public Benefit Counseling and Community Outreach to Indigent Seniors of Houston, Harris County.

Ms. Bradley was born in Houston, Texas in the Houston Negro Hospital which is now called Riverside General located in the Greater Third Ward. She lived in a community that believed in education, respect and the care of the elderly, especially through the extended family. While working at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law and pursued her education in the area of Elder Law. She was the first to graduate from the Houston Community College in 1976 with an associate degree in Legal Science. Ms. Bradley has worked tirelessly for seniors long before and since she established the Advocate Legal Senior Center in 1982.

 

 

Ms. Bradley is truly a warrior for the rights of senior citizens.
